About Bruce...

Always a person who likes to think outside the box his work in clay reflects his sometimes wild and fertile imagination.  His style combines throwing on a wheel with hand-building techniques.  First, a pot is thrown on a potter’s wheel, from approximately 1.5 lbs. of “buff” or brown clay, with white clay added later for the eyes and teeth, and details added along the way.  Then the pot is hand-formed and sculpted before under glaze colored slips are applied to the clay while the piece is still unfired “greenware”.  A “red-pepper” powdered glaze is sometimes rubbed into the cheeks and chin to give the piece some complexion and color.  After drying completely, the pieces are bisque-fired to cone 06, so it would accept a clear, food-safe glaze; finally the pieces are high-fired to cone 6.   The result is a fully functional, one-of-a-kind, unique and food-safe piece of artwork.

Much of Bruce’s collection can be viewed and purchased at 464 Gallery.
