Book Launch, Cinco de Mayo by Michael J. Martineck
he international debut of Michael J. Martineck’s

While the book is a globe-spanning story, Michael, a Grand Island native, wants to introduce it close to home.
Cinco de Mayo is a science fiction thriller, set in the present, portraying a world in which people inadvertently share memories – complete memories – of their lives and their secrets. The novel explores the ways in which our modern world strains privacy and personal boundaries.
EDGE Science Fiction and Fantasy Publishing is proud to add the work to its award-winning catalogue. The book launch party is the first in a series of events around the country centered around the book.

Art Lab f/ Sam Sacco

Emerging Leaders in the Arts Buffalo (ELAB) will host a monthly “Art Lab,” open to all art media the second Thursday of every month.
The goal of this multi-disciplinary critique session is to give Buffalo’s broad arts community a space to come together and continue their collective arts education. The meetings also help to engage like-minded artists and art appreciators and allow them to evaluate each other’s ongoing bodies of work.
Two hours of varied presentation and critique time followed by an open social “artworking,” or networking session, takes place at each meeting. This month will feature artist Sam Sacco.

Beyond the Multitude
The last surviving members of the Neutral Nation, a tribe that called the Eastern shore of Lake Erie and the Niagara River home before the arrival of the Seneca, provided unknowingly the name that now refers to creek, urban street, expressway, and drain: Scajaquada. Beyond the Multitude. According to many sources, the oldest word in use on the Niagara Frontier.
The creek was a lush fishing ground and a site of historical significance during the War of 1812. It provided inspiration for Frederick Law Olmstead and, through a series of dams, produced and fed the lake that was the centerpiece of his Delaware Park in Northern Buffalo. And now, it functions in a different way: as a covered, abused, engineered, and half-forgotten urban waterway, as a buried stream below Buffalo’s East Side, as a sewer beneath its streets, as public right-of-way, as drainage ditch. Creek, sewer, parkland, path, lake, expressway, flooded basement.
But, in spite of a century of abuses, Scajaquada also functions as a symbol of hope for the future of Buffalo. Though the majority of the creek is diverted away to water treatment facilities before it emerges in Forest Lawn Cemetery, the creek is renewed among the buried, nourished by natural springs as it flows along one of the last remaining segments of its original streambed.
Beyond the Multitude seeks to explore the varied histories, narratives, communities, and ecologies of Scajaquada Creek through a combination of historical photographs and documents and work by contemporary regional artists.

Spectrum 720: A Look Into the World of Infrared Photography

Spectrum720 is a photography exhibit showcasing digital infrared photographic works by Buffalo photographer Caroline Bronckers.
This special collection of photographs has been created by capturing infrared light, which is invisible to the naked eye. Using equipment that enables the camera to "see" this invisible range of the light spectrum, these images have an extremely surreal and otherworldly look to them. The infrared light used in Caroline's photographs measures 720 nanometers within the full light spectrum, and is also considered "near-infrared" since it lies just outside of the visible red light wavelength. Caroline's skilled use of this invisible light breathes new life and a whole new look into even the most mundane scenery.
